"Surrounded by numerous former farmworkers' cottages, the entire village has been a listed historical ensemble since 1985. Approximately 50 residents live in the 11 village houses and the old dairy. The estate includes not only the farmyard with its agricultural fields and the partially preserved sections of the historic park dating from the first half of the 18th century, but also about 230 hectares of mixed forest. The estate's lake is fed by the Schwentine River (Slavic for "Holy River"), which rises at Bungsberg and flows into the Kiel Fjord." Source: https://www.gut-stendorf.de

Originally built of fieldstones, it was repeatedly extended with bricks... The different construction phases are still recognizable today.

I'd only ever seen painted cows like these at numerous Swiss locations... lovely to see the two of them frolicking in front of the Dieksee promenade.

In the anteroom on the right, in a wall niche, there are pilgrim stamps and ink pads.

At first glance, you rub your eyes in amazement. Four black, red, and gold-painted concrete posts stand at the edge of Benz. One of the pillars bears a plaque with a hammer and sickle, with the words "German Democratic Republic" embossed in raised letters below. The distinctive posts are actually original parts of the former inner-German border fortifications. "The parts come from a GDR border troop camp in Zarrentin," explains Clemens Claussen. In 1990, the Benz farmer planned to build a wind turbine on a hill next to his chicken coops. To develop this site, he first had to create a paved construction road. "We wanted to create the 300-meter-long access road as a paved path," Claussen recalls. While searching for inexpensive concrete slabs, he remembered that the GDR border fortifications were being dismantled piece by piece. "So we simply asked around to find out where the things were." He finally found what he was looking for in Zarrentin, Mecklenburg. Behind the fence of a barracks, the thick wheel spacers he was after were stacked up. "If they can support a tank, they can also withstand excavators and heavy-duty trucks," Claussen explains. Buying the posts, which had been lying in a pile right next door, was practically a spontaneous, crazy idea. When he wanted to make the deal on site, he was referred to the Russian army command in the Königsbrücker Heide. "We then drove across the new federal states to Saxony to close the deal." The Russians, he says, proved to be both business-savvy and hard-drinking during the negotiations. He doesn't remember the price for the wheel spacers, but they charged 45 Deutsche Marks per post. "It wasn't cheap, but it was worth the fun." Private Roadside Memorial When he erected the four posts as cornerstones for the construction fence at the access road to the windmill in 1991, these details still attracted considerable attention from passersby. "There was quite a bit of chit-chat at the border fence," Claussen reports. - https://www.ln-online.de/lokales/ostholstein/so-landeten-die-ddr-grenzpfosten-in-ostholstein-IDJWVGQWVQAIJCIR2T67RBXTUQ.html
