The tower hill castle near the Postsee is a good example of this type of construction. Despite the changes caused by erosion and agricultural use, the basic features of the complex - such as the hill, the ditch and the rampart - are still recognizable. Such monuments are important testimonies of medieval history and archaeology.

A motte is a typical medieval fortification that was widespread between the 10th and 13th centuries, especially in Western Europe. The term is derived from the French word motte (earth mound). These structures are characterized by an artificially raised hill on which a wooden tower was usually built. The motte served as a place of defense and retreat and was often surrounded by a water-filled ditch and a ring wall, which offered additional protection. The mounds were created from the excavated material from the ditches and offered a strategic advantage due to their elevated position. The wooden towers were often surrounded by palisades, later they were partially replaced by stone buildings. Such structures were of central importance for local rule and served both military and administrative purposes.

The Kirchbarkau - Preetz - Lütjenburg (KPL) narrow-gauge railway, founded in 1908, connected rural towns in the region from 1910 onwards over a distance of 41.1 kilometres with 23 stops and was used primarily for freight transport, for example for agricultural products. Despite good infrastructure and regular transport, it was not economically viable, so passenger transport was initially discontinued and then all operations were discontinued in 1938. The line was dismantled, but relics such as the Schwentine Bridge remind us of this short but significant era in regional transport history.
