The Gruuthuse Museum brings the stories from Bruges' history back to life. The city palace of the lords of Gruuthuse has been a museum since the end of the 19th century. The collection originated from the collection of the Société Archéologique and has since grown to around 20,000 objects. Paintings show prominent historical figures and cityscapes, images from disappeared buildings take you back to times long past, tapestries, lace, copper and goldsmith's work are examples of the production of luxury goods in the city of that time. It was 1425 when John IV of Gruuthuse began building a mansion on the Dijver Canal. The Gruuthuse family earned their money with grut (a type of herbal mixture). In the Middle Ages, grut was a component of beer. Everyone drank it - as a result, the family had a lot of money and thus a lot of influence in Burgundian Bruges. Even after Grut was no longer used, the family was allowed to levy taxes on beer. This is why the family collected valuable works of art, tapestries and historical documents over several centuries. The city palace has been a museum since 1888. The last extensive restoration took place in recent years - I think it was worth it! Source: https://www.flandern-blog.de/gruuthusemuseum-bruegge/

“Plus est en vous” or “There is more to you”. You have probably heard this slogan before. It was the life motto of Louis of Bruges, the man who gave this city palace its splendor. In the GruuthuseMuseum you will find majestic tapestries, colorful stained glass windows, elegant wooden sculptures, historical lace, Burgundian manuscripts and Chinese porcelain. Each of the objects tells a unique Bruges story. The eye-catcher is the authentic prayer chapel from the late 15th century, which creates the connection between the palace and the Church of Our Lady, with a view of the church's Gothic choir. From the balcony you have a unique view of the most beautiful places in Bruges, such as one of the most photographed bridges and the Church of Our Lady. There is more to us. From 1654, the castle park on Kasteelstraat in Lozer was owned by the della Faille d'Huysse family. In the 17th century, the beautiful castle was called "t Goed Uplosere". The block-shaped castle received its current classicist appearance during renovations in the 18th century. From Kasteelstraat you can see the symmetrical rear facade. From Appelhoekstraat you have a view of the facade. The 19th century park in English landscape style consists of ponds, winding paths, bridges and accessories such as a walled vegetable garden, a caretaker's house, a dog kennel, a coach house, a tower-shaped garden pavilion, a courtyard and a gatehouse. From the castle grounds, a double avenue leads to the Church of Our Lady of Assistance. Source: https://www.kruisem.be/kasteel-della-faille-dhuyse-lozer-0
