The town hall on the west side of the market square was completed in 1841, after the previous Renaissance building from the 16th century burned down. The building's line was set back 20 meters to the west to enlarge the market square. Two Renaissance portals are still preserved inside the new building. The facades are characterized by Gothic forms with pointed arch windows, pilasters, and cornices. The central tower crowns the market square façade and was given a carillon made of Meissen porcelain in 1987. The town hall entrance is particularly emphasized by a balcony porch. The building houses the mayor's offices, conference rooms, the city archives, and the wedding room of the registry office. https://www.weimar-lese.de/sehenswuerdigkeiten/gebaeude/rathaus/

The Theaterplatz in Weimar, with its Goethe-Schiller Monument, is the forecourt of the German National Theater. It is part of the pedestrian zone of Weimar's old town and is a listed building in its entirety. On the west side of the square stands the National Theater, with the Goethe-Schiller Monument in front of it. The new Goethe Department Store occupies the north side. The House of the Weimar Republic and the Wittumspalais (Wittum Palace) share the east side. The south side is dominated by restaurants, although in house no. 1a, which partially still dates back to the time of its construction, Johanna Schopenhauer (1766–1838) occasionally held her literary salon. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theaterplatz_(Weimar)

Initially, Herderplatz, north of today's market square, was the center of Weimar, but as the city expanded from around 1300, today's market became the center of society and trade. The town hall has now been freshly renovated and looks really great.

Very beautiful complex that is located directly on the motorway but is shielded by the forest and the large garden. The orangery is beautifully designed and has wonderfully fragrant flowers, while the complex itself is perfect for a stroll. Belvedere Palace above the city of Weimar was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, along with other buildings of "Classical Weimar". The path below the palace leads you directly to the city park and then to the beautiful old town.

The Goethe-Schiller monument is probably one of the most famous motifs in Weimar. The bronze double statue of the German poets Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich von Schiller stands in front of the German National Theater on Theaterplatz in Weimar and was inaugurated in 1857.

Beautiful town hall with balcony and carillon on the large market square. Renovation recently completed - it still shines in the new bright color. Tip: if the weather is nice, go to the market square in the evening and enjoy the sunset over the town hall with a nice beer in one of the restaurants on the market square.

Always nice with the town hall, the beautiful Cranach House, in which the theater is housed in the vault and the Hotel Elephant.

The Weimar Town Hall is located in the center of Weimar on the west side of the 60 by 60 meter market square. The three-story building in the neo-Gothic style with a representative balcony and bell tower is one of the landmarks of the city of Weimar. Now completely renovated, it shines completely in white.

Almost every tourist wants to take a photo in front of the monument to the two German poets - it's almost a miracle that there hasn't been a queue for entry here yet. But once you've seen it, the 'mandatory programme' is over and you can relax and explore the rest of the inner city, some of which is well worth seeing.

Belvedere Palace, the baroque summer residence of the von Sachsen-Weimar and Eisenach family, is located on a hill south of Weimar in the middle of a spacious park with an orangery, pleasure garden and maze. It has been a museum for 18th-century arts and crafts since 1923, in which exquisite porcelain from the Weimar ducal family can be seen.

Next to the classical theater there is a large department store, in front of which is the Goethe-Schiller monument created by Ernst Rietschel. Opposite is the Wittumspalais, in which the famous round table of Duchess Anna Amalia took place. This building, erected in 1866 by the state master builder Johann Gottfried Schlegel, is also the first on this site. Its west wing was in line with the city wall that still existed at the time. A lane leads past this to the arsenal, which in turn takes its name from the arsenal. Next to it is the old wagon shed, which today in turn houses the House of the Weimar Republic.

After the fire in the Renaissance building in 1837, the Weimar town hall was rebuilt by 1841 according to the design by Heinrich Hess, offset about 10 meters to the west. For a long time, the neo-Gothic building with its stony façade dominated the west side of the market square. Currently under renovation.

The garden house on the edge of the park on the Ilm was Goethe's first own residence in Weimar in 1776. Here he wrote the ballad of the "Erlkönig" and the poem "To the Moon". In his old age, the house, which is furnished with original furniture such as the lectern and "sitting bench", became an important retreat for Goethe. Closed on Mondays.
