For centuries, the mighty Martinstor has guarded one of the old entrances to the old city republic of Wangen and today delights the eye of many people.

St. Martins Gate, Wangen im Allgäu At the entrance to Paradiesstrasse is the St. Martin's Gate (named after the patron of the neighboring parish church), now also called Lindauer Tor. It was first mentioned in 1347 as Sweglarstor (after the Sweglar family). Like the Ravensburger Tor, it received its current shape in 1608. It is squatter and more powerful than the latter and has retained some of its original Gothic character. There are remains of the Gothic painting in the doorway. The various tower rooms have recently been restored and furnished. They are used by local clubs. Although lying on the (quiet) district road, it is a beautiful place with a view of the Schleinsee estate with the court chapel and the private Schleinsee. The route out of the old town towards the south leads along Paradiesstrasse through the Martinstor. The name is derived from the neighboring parish church. A painting of Saint St. Martin can be seen on the side facing the city center. The people of Wangen also call the tower the Lindau Gate. It was first mentioned in 1347. The Martinstor - like the Ravensburger Tor - received its current form in 1608, although its original Gothic character was partially preserved.
