Nature reserve and historic execution site. A mighty oak tree now marks the former gallows site, lending the place a special atmosphere. The coppice reserve "Galgenberg" provides a suitable habitat for rare bird and insect species. The approximately one-square-kilometer area is characterized by the birch-oak stands typical of coppice management, which are cut back to the stump about every 20 years. This historic form of cooperative forest use is still practiced today and formerly served to obtain tannins and firewood. Near the former execution site, three oak trees, several hundred years old, dominate the landscape. They may mark a historic rest stop on the "Roman Road," an important medieval trade route that runs through the reserve.

A very beautiful little church.

A former military base, it underwent extensive renovations to become today's Fort Ommeroth and has since become a popular base for group tours. The guesthouse is located on approximately 34 hectares of land. Ommeroth Estate is home to numerous animals as well as people.

A tip for a break

The area was significantly expanded and renaturalized through major clearing and mulching work in October 2024. It is a habitat for rare plant species that have been scientifically recorded.

In autumn 2024, the aging black shelter was replaced with a new structure. A panoramic lounger was also installed to better enjoy the view all the way to the Siegquelle spring on the Ederkopf in the Rothaargebirge.
