A very impressive ⛪️ ruin in the middle of the forest 🌲🌳 .

The small village, probably founded in the 12th century by the Lobdeburg family, was an active fief of the Abbots of Saalfeld and was repeatedly deserted. Since the 16th century, only two houses were occupied as forest and field supervisors, and not always. In 1850, the last family left the isolated place.

The half-timbered castle was built in 1917 by Duke Ernst II of Saxe-Altenburg. It not only served as a hunting lodge, but is also said to have served as a pleasure palace for his numerous amorous adventures.

In the middle of the picturesque Saale-Orla valley, originally built between 1708 and 1714, with 365 windows, 52 interior doors, 12 chimneys and 4 entrances - Oppurg Castle is also known as the Four Seasons Castle.

We were lucky on a hike to the Herzogsstuhl that members of the association were there and they enabled us to visit it - it's worth seeing. Thanks again to the members of the club.

It is assumed that the complex was created around 1248 in connection with a division of the count house of Weimar-Orlamünde. The old dynast's residence is without a doubt a 13th century structure. In 1344 it came into the possession of Margrave Friedrich II of Meissen. Count Heinrich IV von Orlamünde received lifelong residence rights in the purchase contract (Wikipedia).
