The Weißenburg is a hilltop castle in the municipality of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel east of Rudolstadt in Thuringia. It is located very close to a rock face rising up from the Saale. It is believed that the complex was built around 1248 in connection with a division of the Weimar-Orlamünde Count House. Martin Luther and Goethe, among others, resided here. Meanwhile a nice place for a break with gastronomy. Easily accessible by bike.
