The modern steel construction was installed in the historic tower stump in 2002. This approach affected the historical substance as little as possible. The height of today's tower is based on the historical height, as far as it can be read from old drawings. The origins of the tower probably lie in the second half of the 13th century. Over the centuries it may have served as a defense and prison tower, but also to control the shipping on the Elbe that was within sight. After all, it was time to collect the Elbe toll.
