The Ósar Hostel and the cottages across the road are beautifully located on the Vatnsnes peninsula. With a little luck, those staying there can spot not only sheep but also seals from their room windows. The Hvitserkur cliff is a short (black) walk along the beach. The view from the old farmhouse or the cottages over the fjord with its black sand beach and the sea is incredible.

Just a few meters from the shore of the Hunafjord, a petrified troll stands in the water, the Hvítserkur. It's probably one of the most photographed rocks in Iceland, despite being far from any major settlements and the journey to it over pothole-filled gravel roads is somewhat of an adventure. The reward is a truly unforgettable view of the bizarrely shaped monolith in the vastness of the fjord.

Caution, the path here is slippery when wet

The seals and their fur seals lie on the opposite beach, soaking up the sun and warmth, unless a blizzard sweeps across the land in early June...

Be sure to stop if you are traveling on the F35 in the highlands. Don't forget your swimwear.

Unfortunately, the church is closed, but you can see into the chancel through a glass window. The architect of the church is Dr. Maggi Jónsson from Kagaöararhöll, a farm nearby.
