The landscape between Saalfeld and Rudolstadt is just beautiful to look at. 😁 The views along the Saale show the beauty, especially through the many palaces and castles. It's worth just enjoying. Rudolstadt with the Heidecksburg is no exception. 😁

Obernitz Castle stood on the site of today's castle in need of renovation on a narrow rock terrace in the Saale valley. The tower hill castle Obernitz was mentioned as early as 1152. The Lords of Obernitz have also been found in documents since 1258. Their property went to the Lords of Thüna in 1534. They built a renaissance castle on the site of the castle. This still serves as a residence for several families (owned by the Clemm von Hohenberg family since 2004).
