The island mountain near Bad Tabarz is a kind of sacred ground for mountain bike downhill riders. Because here took place 25 years ago (as of 2018) the first downhill race in Germany. Although a bit different than we know it today - a typical death-descent downhill track from that time would probably no longer worry even a marathon bikers worry lines on the forehead. But at that time it was blatant, what started up here on Inselsberg and today can be driven down to Bad Tabarz as a fun trail. By the way: There is still a downhill race here, but thanks to the new route, it has a lot to offer.

The Sängerwiese forest restaurant is a real institution. It was set up as a forester's lodge over 100 years ago and even then guests were welcomed in the guest room. Today everyone stops here on their hikes on the Rennsteig, on the Werra-Burgen-Steig, through the Drachenschlucht and in the area around the Wartburg and enjoys the peace of the forest and the Thuringian cuisine.

Monday to Sunday 11 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
