Whether the view from the castle or from Bernkastel-Kues to the castle, both perspectives are worthwhile.

The 400-year-old half-timbered houses, the Renaissance Town Hall (1608), the St. Michael's Fountain (1606), and the much-admired, charming "Pointed House" (1416) reflect the living poetry of the Middle Ages. The filigree work of the fountain grille, the ornaments and colorful beam drawings in the half-timbering of the houses, and the ornate weather vanes on the roof gables still bear eloquent witness to the town's former prosperity and history. Great view across the Moselle to the castle. Landshut Castle is the ruins of a hilltop castle in Bernkastel-Kues in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district of Rhineland-Palatinate. Landshut Castle is located on the western slope of the Hunsrück above Bernkastel, a district of Bernkastel-Kues. It stands on the approximately 235 m above sea level[1] high castle hill, a northern spur of Mount Olympus (415 m above sea level).[1] The Moselle, flowing toward the castle from the southwest, turns northwest below the castle (approx. 107 m above sea level).[1] This allows travelers traveling upstream and downstream along the Moselle to see the castle on the horizon from afar. In my opinion, that's real engineering. Such a wide span and such delicate construction.

By boat and bike from Trier to Bernkastel and then along the Moselle back to Trier; beautiful good bike paths. An experience! approx. 80 km.
