The district of Traben is to the left of the Moselle at the foot of the former fortress Mont Royal and Trarbach to the right of the river on the Hunsrück side. The two parts of the city are connected by a bridge. While Traben lies on a large width on the banks of the Moselle, Trarbach stretches oblong between the rather steep mountains, especially into the Kautenbach valley. There is a spring in the Bad Wildstein district, the water of which emerges from the depths of the slate at a temperature of 33 ° and is used by a thermal bath.

The half-timbered house, built in 1416, is an outstanding masterpiece of rural, middle-class building and living culture of the Middle Ages and at the same time a prime example of old Moselle winegrowers' houses. The building is located on the market square and is immediately noticeable due to its unusual design, as it grows upwards in a very small space and hence bears its name. It is said that the reason for this type of construction was, on the one hand, the property tax, which at that time only had to be paid for the built-up area; On the other hand, the street on which the pointed house is located was too narrow with a normal, uniform design, so that the ox carts used to be unable to pass through the street because of its width. The cozy wine bar of the Schmitz-Herges family winery has been located in the over 500-year-old building since 1970. There you can experience conviviality and wonderful times together in a special ambience and can taste the range of over 50 Riesling and red wines from our own cultivation.
