Currently very difficult to drive due to trees lying across the road.

Just outside the village of Herresbach, but still within sight of the village, this charming little chapel was built in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A plaque above the entrance door and another next to the shrine invite passing hikers and walkers to take a brief spiritual rest at this spot.

"Matthias is counted among the apostles because the lot fell on him. He replaces Judas Iscariot in the list of the Twelve. It's about the number twelve. At the beginning of his public ministry, Jesus had twelve apostles, one of whom fell away from him and betrayed him. The people of Israel were founded by the twelve sons (and tribes) of Jacob; the new people of God is built on the foundation of the apostles. ... Empress Helena brought the relics of Matthias to Trier, so there is also an apostle's tomb on our side of the Alps, to which many people still make pilgrimages today. The picturesque Eschbach stream crosses the path. There is no need for a bridge, just a big step is enough.

The Guardian Angel Chapel at Hauptstrasse 8 in Herresbach was built in 1843 from local "Grauwacke" quarry stone and is now considered a protected cultural monument. It is under the protection of the holy guardian angels and the apostle Matthias. The previous chapel, which was mentioned as early as 1656, had to be demolished in 1838 due to dilapidation and a much smaller chapel was initially to be built. However, the citizens of Herresbach were able to prevail with their willpower and persistence and a beautiful, large new chapel was finally built.

The parish church of St. Valerius was built in the 13th century as a Romanesque church and expanded in the Gothic architectural style. It has a beautiful altar and ceiling paintings in the canopy.
