The dam at Bostalsee is an impressive structure that dams the largest artificial recreational lake in southwest Germany. The dam not only serves an important function for water sports and leisure activities, but also offers a wonderful view of the lake and the surrounding landscape. With its length of around 500 meters and a height of 20 meters, the dam, which was completed in 1979, is an impressive structure. A walk across the dam is particularly recommended at sunset, when the light bathes the lake in warm colors.

Great wide view and you save meters in altitude because you don't have to go down into town. Makes the rail cycle path really great.

All crossings of a traffic route over another traffic route, over water or over lower-lying terrain are considered bridges if their clear width between the abutments is 2.00 meters or more. Definition according to DIN 1076, in relation to "engineering structures in the course of roads and paths - monitoring and testing" from the traffic bulletin document no. B 5276 version 07/97 personal note1: yes, there is a bridge here, not pretty but a bridge.... personal note2: I wrote this tip when the highlight was still called "Bridge" because the adjuster had slapped it carelessly.

𝑇𝑎𝑙𝑏𝑟ü𝑐𝑘𝑒 𝑂𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑘𝑖𝑟𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑛 With its 12 arches, the Oberkirchen viaduct, built between 1934 and 1936, is by far the largest and most impressive structure on the Westrichbahn Türkismühle-Kusel. In terms of its design, it is one of the largest stone bridges in southwest Germany. The imposing structure is 30m high and spans the entire Osterbachtal with a length of 273m. With its 12 arches of different width and height, with an elegant arch, resting on 11 pillars and 2 abutments, it was probably the most expensive project on the entire railway line. The core of the bridge consists of reinforced concrete, the masonry was made with 16,000 m³ of local natural stone “Basalt - Deopryll”. The stones come from the Heinrich Decker quarries in Pfeffelbach and Thallichtenberg. It was built between 1934 and 1935 in just 16 months by the company “Polensky und Zöllner” from Cologne. When the Westrichbahn track was dismantled in the early 1970s, the rails were also removed from the valley bridge. In 1992 the bridge was renovated. Since then, the “Fritz Wunderlich hiking trail” has led over the building and allows hikers and cyclists a beautiful overview of the upper Ostertal. Source: Text information board

𝑮𝒆𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒕𝒆 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒎 𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒅𝒆𝒎 𝑲𝒓𝒆𝒖𝒛 𝒃𝒆𝒊 𝑺𝒐𝒕𝒛𝒘𝒆𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒓 In 1914 a tower in honor of Kaiser Wilhelm II was to be built on the mountain plateau. However, the execution of this plan was interrupted by the First World War. Only a 5 m high ruin remained, on which a tower with an integrated war memorial chapel was built from 1927. The larger-than-life crucifix set in the central arch of the tower was striking. This tower had to be demolished in 1972 because it was in disrepair. The undamaged crucifix should be blown up. The construction workers, all from the Catholic villages in the vicinity or of Italian origin, refused to blow up the symbol of faith. The crucifix was removed undamaged, kept for a short time in a shed on the edge of the mountain plateau and later set up not far from the motorway junction near Sotzweiler. Source: Text Wikipedia
