Before 1180, Egloffstein Castle can be identified as the ancestral home of the Lords of Egloffstein. Effeltrich has the best preserved fortified church in Upper Franconia. In the immediate vicinity of the church is the mighty dancing linden tree with its sweeping canopy of leaves.
