In 1347, Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian had Schellenberg Castle, which was then called "Lug ins Land", built to protect against attacks from Bohemia. On July 12, 1498, the castle was stormed under the leadership of Captain Konrad von Wirsberg, who was in the service of the Margrave of Brandenburg. The castle was partially destroyed. Their owner, Knight Moritz von Guttenberg, was captured. The castle was never rebuilt.

As if by a giant hand, granite blocks are piled on top of each other, which are actually reminiscent of stacked loaves of bread. A silver cross can be seen on top of the rock.

The Lerautal is an absolute must for every nature lover

The ruins of the summit castle at 826 meters serve as a lookout point and are freely accessible. The view extends from a small wooden observation tower over the ruins of Flossenbürg to the Parkstein. In addition to the remains of the castle, the rock formation on which the remains are located is particularly interesting.

Nice hiking route along the Leraubach, in some places surefootedness is required. The Leraubach meanders through the Lerau valley in a wild and romantic way, sometimes small waterfalls form and the "eternal rushing" of the creek can be heard along the whole route.

Well-preserved castle ruins, a landmark of the Leuchtenberg market that is visible from afar and one of the most famous viewpoints in the region. From the castle complex on the summit of the 585 meter high Leuchtenberg you have a wonderful view of the surrounding area, the complex itself is in an impressive state of preservation. The headquarters of the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg can be visited from April 1st to October 31st from Wed. to Sun. from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
