Built in the early Renaissance period between 1539 and 1543, the Old Town Hall is today the landmark of the city of Weiden. A town hall stood here as early as 1400, but burned down to its foundations in 1536. While the new town hall, subsequently constructed by master builder Hans Nopl, served the administration on the upper floors, the ground floor housed sixteen shops. Since the construction of the New Town Hall in 1978, a city council meeting has been held here only once a year. It is also used for weddings and special receptions. Shops still house the ground floor today. A remarkable carillon chimes daily at 11:35 a.m. and 4:35 p.m.

Built between 1539 and 1548 by master builder Hans Nopl, master carpenter Hans Stieber and stonemason Andreas Falk, the Old Town Hall in the centre of Weiden's beautiful old town has lost none of its historical charm thanks to extensive renovation between 1914 and 1917. The beamed ceiling in the large meeting room is particularly impressive, a work of craftsmanship from the 16th century. A special feature of the building's facade is the sonorous carillon facing the Upper Market, which has been delighting the people of Weiden musically since 1983. Every day at 11:35 a.m. and 4:35 p.m. you can hear a selection of songs from the repertoire of 99 works. The Old Town Hall used to serve not only as an administrative building, but was also the centre of social life in the town. Many theatre and dance events also took place here.

The Doost nature reserve has become a worthwhile destination for - not just geological - excursions, the fauna and flora can also inspire here. The "Doost" was placed under protection very early on, on October 14, 1937 - making it the oldest nature reserve in the Upper Palatinate.

Round granite blocks lie impressively on top of and next to each other in the Doost. The water of the Girnitzbach rushes beneath them. Popular belief interprets them as the work of giants, and the devil is also brought into play in the legends. In fact, the Doost goes back to a long geological process that began millions of years ago.

The somewhat hidden Doost nature reserve was placed under protection as early as 1937, making it the oldest protected area in the Upper Palatinate. The word "Doost" is probably derived from the word "tosen" of the Girnitz, the numerous moss-covered granite balls and Pressack granite blocks were washed round by the water and are stacked on top of and next to each other over a length of around 500 meters. Many legends and myths are entwined around this area, the stories can be read on some well-made bronze plaques. The Doost is definitely worth a visit and is second to none!

The Dost Nature Reserve is a sea of boulders. Due to its idyllic location and the mighty boulders along the Girnitz stream and on the flat valley slopes, it is a popular destination for nature lovers and hikers.
