Wessobrunn, one of the oldest monasteries in the Pfaffenwinkel and the longest prince's wing in the world, the cradle of the Wessobrunn school, for a long time the home of the Wessobrunn prayer and still definitely worth a visit today! The Tassilo Linde, which is part of the founding history, is located in the immediate vicinity of the monastery. This monastery is an old Benedictine foundation. The year of foundation is given as 753, and the foundation is said to have been carried out by Duke Tassilo III. From 1913 to 2014 a community of missionary Benedictine nuns lived in this scenic location. Wessobrunn is known for the "Wessobrunn prayer", the oldest German language monument with Christian content. It is part of a codex that was probably created around 814 in the area of the Augsburg diocese. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Wessobrunn became famous thanks to important plasterers and master builders who worked far beyond Bavaria's borders and built or designed famous buildings. Today, the monastery is home to an organic natural cosmetics company run by Martina Gebhardt, who is also the owner. Although the monastery has been privately owned since 2014, it is considered a cultural monument, so tours of the monastery are held regularly. You can see the impressive staircase, the historic prince's wing (at 88 meters long, the prince's wing is the longest stucco corridor in the world), the colorful Benedictus Hall, the interesting pharmacy museum, the former laboratory and the culturally significant scriptorium. Afterwards, the cozy monastery shop invites you to linger. Further information and tours: www.klosterwessobrunn.de
