The former teachers' college (also called Pädagogium) dates back to 1875. It later served as the Johannes Bugenhagen Gymnasium until 2008. The two-story, three-wing, historicist U-shaped building with a central gable projection, a mezzanine floor, and a cornice with a frieze-like ornamentation was built in 1875 as a teacher's college training center for elementary school teachers. A rear extension complements the complex. The central building housed classrooms, an auditorium, and a kitchen in over 100 rooms, while the two side wings housed the teachers' families. The portal, the main entrance, is supported by red sandstone columns. The entrances to the teachers' apartments have verandas. The building has been vacant since the summer of 2008 and is to be sold. The section of the JW VB hiking trail that passes through Richtenberg is part of the Greifenweg. This trail connects Bodstedt with Richtenberg and Franzburg and continues to Tribsees where it meets the Via Baltica. The Greifenweg offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the nature of the coastal hinterland and discover historical sites. There are also numerous hikes and walks in the area around Richtenberg that lead through the picturesque countryside. These routes offer a mix of easy and moderate hikes suitable for all fitness levels.

The pilgrimage route of Saint Birgitta of Sweden, also known as Birgitavägarna or Saint Birgitta Ways, is an important pilgrimage route that connects various historical and spiritual sites. The route leads from Hamburg via Franzburg / Richtenberg, Trondheim and Ăbo/Uppsala/Stockholm to Vadstena, where the grave of Saint Birgitta is located.

The Protestant church in Franzburg is the surviving southern transept arm of the former monastery church of the Cistercian monastery of Neuencamp from the 14th century. The building is the remains of the Cistercian monastery of Neuencamp (mother monastery of Hiddensee). The monastery was dissolved during the Reformation. The Pomeranian dukes had a castle built here from 1587. The castle chapel was built from the remains of the monastery church. During the Thirty Years' War, Franzburg was plundered and destroyed by Wallenstein's troops. Between 1660 and 1678, the remains of the castle were demolished. Only the former castle church has survived.
