An update to 51m's post - cyclists now pay £2.15 to cross. Those seeking a long ferry trip are advised to take one of the length-wise cruises; this width-wise ferry is basically a utilitarian (though still picturesque) crossing - takes a little under 5 minutes to complete once started.

Very busy in the warmer months. Car parking is an issue so expect the roads to be littered with cars parked on the verges.

The Wheatsheaf Inn is a cyclist friendly country pub serving good food. There are places to sit inside and out, where you can really appreciate your stunning surroundings.

Cold at this time of year, no sunlight and lake chill. The road is also turning into a gravel track. Take care of riding your £££££ road bike. X, gravel and mountain can handle it no problem.

Spanning the River Lune this magnificent three-arched bridge, probably dates from the 12th or 13th century, and is now a scheduled ancient monument. If you look closely you can see the supposed "W" shaped devil's handprint in the wall of the bridge.
