Lichtenberg Castle Little is known about the origins of Lichtenberg Castle, which stood on the site of today's castle in the Middle Ages. Count Diether III. A document from 1295 has been preserved, in which Count Palatine Rudolf, as feudal lord, allowed Count Wilhelm von Katzenelnbogen to bequeath Lichtenberg Castle and its accessories to his wife Irmengard as a dowry.
