The interior design of Neuschwanstein Castle features the recurring element of the soaring swan. This symbolizes purity and is the heraldic animal of the Counts of Schwangau, to which Ludwig II belonged. This bird can be seen everywhere, on the faucets, stained-glass windows, and even on the roof of the royal carriage.

The car park in Brunnen above the bridge is a good place for the tour. Free of charge, mostly little frequented and here you can decide whether to take the direct route to Kniebis or the small detour past the Bannwaldsee. I always ride counterclockwise, but that's a matter of taste.

Anyone who has seen the Lechfall should continue on foot at the Schwansee kiosk through the forest to the Schwan See. From there you can see the two castles from dad (money) and (white) from the son - King Ludwig II.

The Forggensee is a reservoir fed by the Lech. The water in it is slowly drained in autumn and refilled in spring when the snow melts in the mountains, so that shipping can start again from June. The lake is in a fantastic location with a mountain backdrop and a view of Neuschwanstein Castle. A great bathing lake in summer

The Forgensee is beautifully situated in front of the castles. Great for swimming, a bike tour around the lake is doable for families. About 35 km.

South of the old town of Füssen you can experience a special natural spectacle on the federal road B 17 (Tiroler Straße). There, the Lech pours into a narrow gorge via a dam built in the 18th century. You have a good view from the new viewing platform on the east bank or directly from the Maxsteg, which spans the waterfall.

Cycling the Forggensee is only really fun when it is filled with water. Damming begins in autumn, and in winter large parts of the lake are empty (the lake reaches its lowest water level in March). The impoundment will start again from April and will be completed around the end of May. Impounding and discharging takes place via the Forggensee-Damm Roßhaupten. The cruise operates from June 1st to October 15th.
