The swing bridge over the Pinnau was completed in 1887. As a cultural monument, it is now a listed building and is one of the two oldest swing bridges still in operation in Germany. The bridge keeper used to crank the bridge up and down with a handwheel to turn it sideways for shipping. Today this is done by an electric motor.

The Hetlinger Schanze is the name of the Elbe beach near Hetlingen opposite Lühesand, named after the historical field hill of the same name. On the beach there are also the highest overhead pylons in Europe, called Elbe Junction 1 and 2. It is a popular recreational destination and nature reserve.
