In the Machern landscape garden there is a stately, 26 meter high castle ruin. It was built in ruins at the end of the 18th century to decorate the park. The entrance to the castle is an artificial rock wall.
It is also the birthplace of the Albertine ancestor of the Saxon royal family, Albrecht "the Beherzten" Today it is the location of the District Court Grimma and the Leipzig prosecutor.
