Just half an hour from Leipzig, in the verdant heart of the Saxon castle and heath landscape, Trebsen Castle rises above the western bank of the Mulde River. Even from afar, the four-winged castle complex welcomes guests with a late Gothic façade interwoven with multifaceted decorative gables.

An architectural highlight of the castle are the magnificent cell vaults on the ground floor, which can also be admired in the restaurant. These multi-layered honeycomb ceilings are among the greatest architectural achievements of the late Middle Ages and were considered a sensation at European royal courts.

The castle is located on the eastern edge of the town of Trebsen, directly on the Mulde River. To the north, the castle park, which covers over six hectares, extends. The four-winged castle complex has a nearly rectangular floor plan, measuring approximately 50 by 44 meters. The arched gateway to the courtyard leads through the somewhat narrower south wing, which is flanked by the gable ends of the east and west wings. Both gable ends bear Gothic stepped gables, with the eastern one being higher, while the western one, with its corner double gable, is more ornately designed. The east and west wings each have twelve outward-facing window axes.

Upon entering the courtyard, opposite the entrance on the north wall, you'll notice an inward-curving section of natural stone masonry, partially covered in ivy. This is the remnant of the former keep, which had a diameter of 18 meters (see floor plan). The castle courtyard is divided by a terrace. Numerous rooms in the castle feature well-preserved or restored cellular vaults, also known as diamond vaults. The stone-framed windows of the complex are mostly framed with Rochlitz porphyry. The roofs have dormer windows.

The former manor, located southwest of the castle, is separated from it by a moat. It is part of the former moated castle complex. A historic bridge spans the moat between the manor and the castle. At the entrance to the park, still on the elevated castle grounds, is a Baroque garden pavilion.
