If I look at the past pictures in this highlight, then you become aware of the climate and the damage of German forests. Currently (08/22) the view from the Trödelsteine is still wonderful, but mainly of bare plains and slopes. A very sad picture with great views from the basalt stone mountain.

A highlight of the slate mine is the opportunity to descend 20 meters into the tunnel. The mine has served as a supplier of slate roof tiles for Marienstatt Abbey and Hachenburg Castle since the Middle Ages. Having fallen into oblivion and only discovered by chance in an old document, the mine was rediscovered after a 17-year search and subsequently restored. Located directly on the Westerwaldsteig hiking trail, the mine is open to visitors year-round.

In the Assberg slate mine you can learn a lot about slate mining in Kroppacher Switzerland. Among other things, a tour at a depth of 20 meters is possible. But I don't want to reveal more. ;)

The Ottoturm is an almost 19-meter-high observation tower on the Kahlenberg. From here, you have a beautiful panoramic view of parts of the Siegerland region, especially when the weather is good; on particularly clear days you can even see the Siebengebirge. The steel staircase up to the tower is a highlight in itself, especially if you are afraid of heights. But the climb is worth it!

The Druidenstein is located on the first stage of the Druidensteig and the penultimate stage of the Natursteig Sieg long-distance hiking trail. The bizarre basalt cone is around 20 meters high and can be seen from afar. A very impressive place for a long break and if you have nothing left in your backpack, you can refill it at the "kiosk".

To the left of the benches with the table is a good way to climb up a path to the summit cross. Can be walked to the cross better than the path that leads up to the right.

From the Pfannenberg tower (518.69m above sea level) you have a great view towards Siegerland! It's worth a visit. The forecourt is also nice for a rest at the highest point of the city of Siegen :) The surrounding trees are now very high, so the view is a little restricted. However, towards the Westerwald, the view is still absolutely great!

Actually, there is a great view of Siegen, the gable forest and the Kalteiche. Although almost all the spruce trees fell victim to the bark beetle, the view here is now quite restricted because the surrounding trees have become too high. The saw because of the beetle does not fall victim to this, since it is larch that is not attacked by the beetle. I can therefore only recommend the tower to a limited extent
