Werneck Castle Werneck Castle is a former residence of the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg in the Bavarian market town of Werneck. The Baroque three-winged complex was built between 1731 and 1747 on the orders of Friedrich Karl von Schönborn, based on a design by Balthasar Neumann. During the conversion of the castle into a hospital starting in 1853, all interior rooms except the castle church were destroyed. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Werneck

An imposing wrought-iron gate - a work (around 1740) by the prince-bishop's blacksmith Johann Georg Oegg - characterizes the entrance to the baroque palace complex.

The castle was formerly the residence of the Counts of Schönborn and is now used as a boarding school for the Franconian country school at Schloss Gaibach.

Impressive baroque palace building by the Würzburg prince-bishops, the architect was none other than Balthasar Neumann. The building has served as a clinic for various medical institutions since the 19th century.

First-class view, especially at ☀️ of the Meinschleife, Nordheim am Main and Escherndorf and the vineyards 🍇. The wooden bench below the memorial stone, above the path and next to the rose hip bush invites you to take a seat, if not already occupied. In any case, a very idyllic place. On the way back we had 🍀 and could take a seat. You could even watch 🐭🐭 next door.

Gaibach Castle was the ancestral castle of Lothar Franz von Schönborn (1655-1729), one of the most important rulers of the German-speaking area at the turn of the 18th century. Lothar Franz, who was at the same time Prince-Bishop of Bamberg, Archbishop of Mainz and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire, was characterized by a lively construction activity. Around 1700 he had the old Gaibach moated castle converted into a baroque pleasure palace and at the same time endeavored to create a dignified garden. Today only a few relics are reminiscent of the Gaibach baroque garden. The main features of the planned layout of the landscape park have been preserved, but also because of the huge dimensions of the park it is only visible to the trained eye. An almost circular, agriculturally used area takes up the slope of the "sun hill" and is framed by a strip of wood. Aisles always reveal the view, across vineyards, valleys and the church of Gaibach built by Balthasar Neumann to the heights of the Steigerwald. The constitutional column crowns the park unchanged, the hunting snips run through the forest in the former pheasant garden, even if nature has overgrown and dissolved the clear edges.
