São Cristovão is a village in the Alentejo region, belonging to the municipality of Montemor-o-Novo. The foundation of this parish must predate 1534. The former parish of São Cristovão, within the territory of Montemor-o-Novo, was a curacy under the patronage of the Archbishop of Évora. Its economic activity is based on agriculture, livestock farming, bread making, and cattle breeding. São Cristovão is a white and welcoming village, smiling at every visitor, with natural heritage open to those who know how to discover it. It undoubtedly deserves a visit, especially for lovers of Alentejo gastronomy. There are good routes to explore by hiking or cycling in the area.

This church has a life-size wooden sculpture of Jesus carrying the cross, a wonderful piece of contemporary history.

Estremoz is a Portuguese city located in the district of Évora, in Alto Alentejo, known as the "marble capital" of Portugal. It is divided into two parts: a medieval upper town, enclosed by walls, with old white houses and an imposing castle (the Castle of Queen Santa Isabel, which houses a Pousada), and a lower town with eighteenth-century fortifications. Estremoz is famous for its white marble quarries, which have made Portugal a major world exporter, and for its traditional terracotta crafts, especially the "puppets" (Bonecos de Estremoz), a UNESCO Intangible Heritage. At the top of the Serra d’Ossa, at an altitude of 650 metres, stands the Alto de São Gens. Among the ruins of the old chapel dedicated to the saint, memories of an occupation that dates back more than three millennia, to the Bronze and Iron Ages, echo. This archaeological site, shrouded in legend and symbolism, was later associated by the monks of the Congregation of São Paulo with the mythical Mount of Venus, the refuge of Viriato, the legendary Lusitanian leader who, according to tradition, descended from here to confront the Romans.
