Since the summer of 2025, a memorial stone has commemorated Alfred Keim, who died the previous winter at the age of 93, at the rest area on the edge of the Niederrodenbacher Steinbrüche nature reserve. The Social Democrat and trade unionist was committed to nature and environmental conservation throughout his life. For example, the designation of the Rodenbacher Steinbrüche as a nature reserve was his initiative. Keim also advocated for the forest to no longer be viewed primarily as a source of income, but rather as a valuable asset worthy of protection. In this spirit, the memorial stone bears Keim's motto: "The forest doesn't need us, but we need the forest."
