The Schloßmühle is highly recommended for smaller family celebrations; in fine weather, the garden is also a good option.

## [Schlossmühle Radeberg](https://www.google.com/maps/search/Schlossm%C3%BChle+Radeberg) The Schlossmühle Radeberg is a historic watermill on the Große Röder River in the Saxon town of Radeberg, near Klippenstein Castle. First documented in 1445, it is the oldest mill in the town. It was in operation until 1996 and was subsequently restored to serve as a museum mill and event venue. ([==>Schlossmühle Radeberg, one of the oldest mills on the Große Röder River - huettertalradeberg's website!](https://www.huettertal-radeberg.de/sehensw%C3%BCrdigkeiten/schlossm%C3%BChle/?utm_source=chatgpt.com)) ### Historical Background The Schlossmühle was originally used to supply the neighboring Klippenstein Castle. Over the centuries, it has experienced numerous natural disasters, including floods, droughts, and fires. Despite these challenges, the mill remained in operation throughout the centuries. After the death of the last miller, Günter Sonntag, in 2009, his sons took over the mill and continued its restoration. Since then, the mill has been open to the public and offers insights into the history of milling. The Radeberg Castle Mill was first mentioned in documents in 1445 and, as the oldest mill in Radeberg, can look back on a long history. After the last major renovation in 1982 by master miller Günter Sonntag, it was in operation as a 3-ton wheat mill until mid-1996. The mill has been open to visitors since the German Mill Day in 2010. After the building has been renovated, a mill museum will be set up, and event rooms and overnight accommodation will be created. The Hermsdorf Palace Park with its canal was laid out as a baroque garden in the 18th century and later redesigned in the English style. The castle itself dates back to the 16th century, but was restored in Baroque style after a fire in 1729. Around 1890 the ballroom was redesigned in the rococo style. The castle was owned by various Saxon noble families, including the princes of Schönburg-Waldenburg. Today the castle can be rented as an event location.

It's worth taking a look inside the mill. There is flour, semolina and other products to buy and maybe a soft ice cream and cake. You can relax in the garden, wonderful.

It really is a magical castle with a fairytale park - a real insider tip for romantics and nature lovers. During the GDR era and until 1998, the castle was used as a nursing home. Unfortunately, the historic interior furnishings have been destroyed, except for the ballroom and the entrance hall. The outside has been beautifully renovated, however, and you can now hold private parties there.

On the way to Dresden we spontaneously decide to visit Radeberg and the Castle of Klippenstein. The air is clear and the first snow is on the ground. With every step the leaves crunch under our feet. A gray heron, standing lonely on a branch in a tree, enjoys the sun's rays. When we arrive at the castle, the museum attendant welcomes us. We're the first today and she turns on the lights in the showrooms for us. Along the timeline embedded in the ground, digital panels take us back into history. This goes back almost 800 years. The rooms continue with exhibits from different eras. Drawers and windows that can be opened with other exhibits are hidden everywhere. Areas of the benches can be opened. There are nice things for children hidden here. Up the stairs a special exhibition with paintings by Heidi Rosenkranz. An artist with a regional connection. In two other rooms there is an exhibition on 175 years of the Saxon-Silesian Railway. The sections of the railway are described extensively and illustrated with original postcards. Downstairs again, we go into the rooms on the history of Radeberg, the dynasties in the castle, the cultural development and that of the region with all sorts of objects from the former industrial production. At the end we meet Moritz von Sachsen, who already met us in Schmalkalden and the Schmalkaldic League. facebook.com/DerWandererMitHut.de/posts/pfbid0JrFkojYccWTs5wUu3LH8ZLM6WgmnygSMV76SUQXamiPU3ZMZ56eXEV94DLzmk2YEl Between 1543 and 1546 he had the castle converted into a hunting lodge. An audio guide can accompany you to various stations through the exhibition and the outdoor area free of charge via your smartphone. We take almost two hours. But the information enables much more. A nice museum with an extensive exhibition and lots of information. Admission currently costs 4 euros. schloss-klippenstein.de/home.html

The manor of Hermsdorf was acquired by Otto von Carlowitz in 1461. From 1553 to 1575 Christoph von Carlowitz built Hermsdorf Castle on it, an elongated, almost imperceptibly kinked building in the Renaissance style with three towers in front, two lateral towers and a central stair tower, comparable to the Jägerhof (Dresden).

One of around 100,000 war memorials in Germany. Since the wars of liberation at the beginning of the 19th century, such memorials have been erected for the fallen. On the one hand they should comfort the relatives, on the other hand they should represent a memorial for peace.
