The towers and gates invite you into the historic old town from afar and narrow alleys lead you into picturesque nooks and crannies. The "stone knight" on the market square fountain welcomes us upright. It testifies to the pride and self-confidence of the former Free Imperial City, as does the imposing 200-year-old town hall, which is transformed into the world's largest Advent calendar house in winter and, with its countless romantic half-timbered buildings, dominates the cityscape. 

The new bridge for trams, cyclists and pedestrians was built for the new tram line from Strasbourg to Kehl and inaugurated in 2017. Officially, it bears the unwieldy name "Beatus Rhenanus Bridge".

Here Europe comes alive. No border controls or barriers, a tram that travels across cities and countries. Just for dinner in the neighboring country.

Kehl's new landmark was erected in 2004 for the State Horticultural Show and connects Germany with France and the two parts of the Garden of the Two Shores. Those who like to watch the boats on the river will find their place on the benches in the middle of the bridge.
