Foundations of a mysterious castle

Once you have deciphered the plaque, the text of which can hardly be read because the glass pane is extremely reflective, the reconstruction of the foundation walls helps to understand the size and structure of the castle. It was small, but it has that in common with many other castles.

Schloss Baum is located in the middle of the extensive Schaumburg Forest.

We had specially marked it on our route, otherwise you just drive past here quickly - although the short detour is definitely worth it.

It's a very nice hike to this point. Always worth a hike.

A very mystical place when it is foggy.

The Wittekindsburg, as it is known today, is a castle-like restaurant, but the real fortifications, which bear the name Wittekindsburg, date back to the Iron Age and were built over 2000 years ago. In 1893, it was decided to build a tourist spot and hiking destination between the remains of the foundations of the real castle, which had long since been reclaimed by nature. A residential building was built shortly afterwards, along with a pub and stable. Just 5 years later, the residential building was torn down and the current building was built on the same site. This entire building complex, with its half-timbering and the striking tower, which can be easily recognized from the surrounding valleys, is now a listed building.
