The Bückeburgers had their sights set on Papenbrink from the start. For the local dignitaries, a Sunday climb was a must. Once at the top, one let oneself be overwhelmed by enthusiastic and strongly patriotic feelings. In 1892, Georg König and his friends commissioned the construction of a shelter to be able to enjoy the thing even in storm and rain. The barrack-shaped wooden shelter was christened "Melchershütte" after the main sponsor. Melchers came from Bückeburg and had made it to prosperity in Bremen and had the honorary title of "consul". However, the hut soon fell into disrepair. A new, sturdy stone summit house was built in its place in 1910. Club chairman König contributed most of the money from his private coffers. The Rintelners had previously agreed to monitor, care for and look after the sandstone construction. König dedicated his foundation to his two idols, Bismarck and Luther, whom he greatly admired. This is why the name "Lutherstein" occasionally appears in old maps. Today, the word “Königshütte” is almost exclusively used. A nice observation tower with a good view. Food and drinks are available in the forest restaurant. I was able to record the sunset from above and it was very beautiful. The tower was open, but there is a door that will probably be locked.
