팔켄슈타인 성터(역사적으로 노이팔켄슈타인이라고도 불림)는 타우누스 지역 쾨니히슈타인 팔켄슈타인 지구의 해발 약 450미터 지점에 위치해 있습니다. 이 성터는 이 지역의 눈에 띄는 랜드마크로 멀리서도 보이며, 파란만장한 역사를 가지고 있습니다. 이 요새는 14세기 중반에 볼란덴-팔켄슈타인 영주들이 누링스 성의 오래된 기초 바로 옆에 건설했으며, 1364년에 처음으로 문서에 언급되었습니다. 나사우 백작과 크론베르크 백작을 포함한 여러 귀족 가문들이 빠르게 교체된 후, 이 복합 시설은 1500년경에 포괄적인 현대화 단계를 거쳤습니다. 이 시기에 현대적인 방어 시설, 두 개의 대포탑, 그리고 오늘날까지 보존된 18미터 높이의 돈존이 독특한 "버터 배럴" 스타일로 세워졌습니다. 30년 전쟁 이후, 이 요새는 점차 전략적 중요성을 잃었습니다. 1780년경부터는 건물의 일부가 채석장으로 사용되면서 최종적으로 버려지고 점차 폐허로 변했습니다. 역사적인 성벽의 의도적인 철거는 1842년에야 중단될 수 있었습니다. 1945년부터 보호 구역은 지자체(현재 쾨니히슈타인 시)의 소유가 되었으며, 이후 지역 역사 협회의 상당한 재정적 지원으로 지속적으로 유지 및 보수되었습니다. 오늘날 성의 핵심부 고지대는 인기 있는 관광 명소로, 개방 기간(3월~10월) 동안 방문객들에게 라인-마인 평원과 타우누스 산맥의 인상적인 파노라마 전망을 제공합니다.

From Falkenstein Castle you have an impressive view of Frankfurt. On a clear day, the view extends to the skyline and far into the surrounding area. A worthwhile stop on the hike.

The summit cross at 881 m on the Grosser Feldberg in the Taunus is a striking landmark and a popular destination for hikers. It stands on the highest point of the mountain and offers a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape. Of course, you can also sign the summit book directly.

The meeting point is on the summit plateau. A little away from the road, you can enjoy the wide view over the Hintertaunus from here. When the visibility is good, you can see as far as the Westerwald and the Vogelsberg.

The entrance fee of 2 euros is definitely worth it, as you can enjoy a great view from here. Unfortunately the tower is currently closed.
