Next to the Lower Castle, on a gentle hill above the Elster lowlands, at the same height as the castle buildings, stands the building of the former high school. The Lower Castle and the former high school form a remarkable architectural ensemble. Seen from the Neustadt side, they show a unique, often photographed, unmistakable silhouette that many Greiz residents are proud of and that visitors look at with admiration.
