After Engelbert's body was denied entry into the ancestral castle of the man murdered the previous day on November 8, 1225, a relic from his rib was permitted to be brought in unhindered on November 8, 2025, for a memorial service as part of an Engelbert pilgrimage. A service was held at the foot of the monument in honor of the Imperial Chancellor, Archbishop of Cologne, and Count of Berg, who had been canonized by the people.
