Burg Castle is the old seat of the Count of Berg, after whom the Bergisches Land region was named. The castle can be reached very easily by chairlift. Once you reach the top of the castle, you are transported to the old world of the Middle Ages. If you want, you can also visit the castle or simply stop off for a cappuccino and delicious waffles with rice pudding while enjoying the great panorama.

At the beginning of the 12th century (after 1133) Adolf II. Von Berg (also: vom Berg, de Berge) built the castle as the seat of the Counts of Berg at a height above the Wupper. Other names for the castle are Neuenberge Castle or Neuchâtel (Latin: novus mons, novum castrum or novi montis castrum (Neuberg, Neuburg, festivals on the new mountain)). To date, the headquarters in the Berge Castle in Odenthal-Altenberg has been abandoned. It was only in the 15th century that the castle was given its present name after the major renovation into a hunting lodge because of a certain section of the complex, which was still called "Burg".

The Solingen district of Burg is worth a visit not only because of the famous Bergische Kaffeetafel, which is available in every café here. There are many historic buildings with the typical half-timbered and slate facades with white window frames and green shutters of the Bergisches Land both in Unterburg in the Wupper valley and in Oberburg, which is approx. 100 meters above. The highlight is certainly the visit to the large castle complex in Oberburg, which is one of the largest in Germany.
