About the history of the church: The old village church from the 15th/16th century. Century with plastered mixed masonry was built on the site of a medieval predecessor. It has a late medieval structure, but has been changed and modernized over the centuries. It is believed that the first church was built of wood when the village was founded around 1230. In 1973 the church was renovated and the finds that were made suggest this. The nave was originally not as high as today's and was lower. The original octagonal floor plan was changed into the current elongated shape through an expansion at a later date. The west tower was added in 1761. The flat arched windows probably come from the same period. The last restoration in 1958/59 gave the exterior plaster the baroque structure. The church's baptismal font dates from the 16th century. The baptismal font probably dates from 1647 and was a gift from the citizens of Spandau to the community of Heiligensee. On the inside there is a depiction of a Madonna and child on a crescent moon in a rays of sunshine. Around the church is the old village cemetery, where burials were forbidden as early as 1900 for fear of epidemics. The cemetery is more than 600 years old. It was the final resting place of many long-established Heiligensee families and was most likely built in the 13th/14th century. Century. There used to be the so-called “poor sinners' corner” here. Many people who had chosen suicide were buried here. There is the gravestone of Gustav Rothschild, who shot himself in 1893, and a small gravestone near the churchyard fence that commemorates a young couple from Berlin who drowned themselves in Heiligensee in 1896. The oldest mentioned pastor in Heiligensee is Nikolaus Clavier, whose name also appears in the document from 1308 in which Heiligensee is mentioned for the first time.
