You don't walk this path to arrive somewhere. You walk it because it's there – slightly carved into the ground, almost as if forgotten, a shady path with a tendency toward silence. The Grunewald forest knows how to create paths that are more than connections: small trials with a view. And then these stairs. No significant building, no landmark with a sign or QR code. Just a few old, mossy steps rising from the ground in the half-shadow like a memory of something never said. Whoever climbs them also steps a little out of the world. The trees hold their breath. Light falls in patches on the leaves, the bark, the path – as if the forest had its own language of shadows and greenery. Down below, it smells of earth and wood. Up above, it's brighter. Perhaps these stairs lead nowhere. But perhaps they lead exactly to where you need to go, to briefly reconnect with yourself. Between two breaths. Between two thoughts.

Sometimes happiness lies where no one expects it – not in the destination, but in hesitation. Not in the panoramic sign, but on a bench that looks as if it has forgotten itself. If you stroll along the Havelhöhenweg towards Kladow, an old tree will eventually whisper: "Sit down." There it stands, crooked, wind-beaten, as if it were made of the wood that shades its backrest. Two planks, a piece of trunk, some moss. No sign, no selfie spot. Just you, the bench, the roots, the expanse – and the view over the Havel, unfolding so slowly, as if it too were in no hurry. Sails drift like thoughts through the wind. Schwanenwerder lies silently there, like a forgotten promise. You don't sit down here to rest. You sit down because you feel: This moment belongs to you – and to everyone at the same time. A secret place for what doesn't have to be loud. Just the forest, the water, and the thought that time sometimes stops – all by itself.

You'd think a steam power plant wasn't a place for strolling. And yet it stands there as if it had stepped out of an oriental fairytale—with turrets, battlements, and a chimney that stretches so delicately into the Havel idyll, as if it never wanted to disturb it, but only quietly participate. The Steam Engine House in Babelsberg Park is not an engine house. It's a romantic misnomer. Not only steam was generated here, but also a certain idea of splendor: King Frederick William IV didn't want a tubular structure with a soot-covered edge, but a building with poise. So, in true Prussian style, he let aesthetics triumph over function. And so the building not only pumps water, but also imagination into the mind: Some call it a mosque, others a fairytale castle. But nobody calls it an engine house. Too banal. Those who approach do so either on foot – along one of the park's gently winding paths – or from the water, on the excursion steamer that chugs by like a nostalgic salute to the leisure culture of the 1980s. And then it stands there. Wide, tranquil, defiant – yet playful. The long chimney is an exclamation mark against boredom.

Beautiful old brick construction with a pitched roof. Not so modern, these blocks lack any visual appeal. Beautiful from the outside, but not noticeable from the inside, but you can at least go out into the courtyard and take a break there if you need to.
