The Plau am See lighthouse stands at the junction of Lake Plau and the Müritz-Elde waterway and was built in 2012. With its red and white wooden facade and viewing platform, it offers impressive panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding area. For cyclists, the lighthouse is an attractive destination on tours around Lake Plau: The nearby marina, fishing farms, and the waterfront promenade invite you to take a break, explore, and refresh yourself, ideally combining nature and physical activity.

The lift bridge was built in 1916 to replace a wooden drawbridge. In 1945, the bridge was saved from being blown up.[1] In 1991/92, it was repaired and in 2020/21, a basic overhaul was carried out, including the installation of new drive technology.[2] A remote control was also implemented, taking into account the monument protection. Until this renovation, the lock keeper, who operates the lock at the "Hühnerleiter" a few hundred meters downstream on the Elde, had to ride his bike to the bridge in order to control the bridge directly from the wooden house. In 2012 a new highlight was completed in Plau am See and made accessible to the public - the new pier with the lighthouse. This has already developed into a real visitor magnet in the climatic health resort. Especially on the weekends, many guests and locals take advantage of the beautiful weather to enjoy the view from the platform of Lake Plau and the surrounding area. With a total height of 13.5 meters, the lighthouse now welcomes all guests coming from the water at the entrance to Plau am See. From land, visitors can climb the tower and get a fascinating all-round view of the Plauer See from the viewing platform at a height of 8 meters.

The Plauer See is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Mecklenburg Lake District, a water landscape formed during the Ice Age. It has a north-south extension of about 15 kilometers and an average depth of 6.8 meters, the deepest point is 25.5 meters. With its wide, natural shores and quiet bays, the lake offers a safe home for a large number of animals.
