In 2012 a new highlight was completed in Plau am See and made accessible to the public - the new pier with the lighthouse. This has already developed into a real visitor magnet in the climatic health resort. Especially on the weekends, many guests and locals take advantage of the beautiful weather to enjoy the view from the platform of Lake Plau and the surrounding area. With a total height of 13.5 meters, the lighthouse now welcomes all guests coming from the water at the entrance to Plau am See. From land, visitors can climb the tower and get a fascinating all-round view of the Plauer See from the viewing platform at a height of 8 meters.

The Plauer See is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Mecklenburg Lake District, a water landscape formed during the Ice Age. It has a north-south extension of about 15 kilometers and an average depth of 6.8 meters, the deepest point is 25.5 meters. With its wide, natural shores and quiet bays, the lake offers a safe home for a large number of animals.
