And then we enter the main church space. The dark brown barrel vault arches above us. The double galleries rise high on either side. At the front stands the simple pulpit altar, which, like the galleries and pews, is painted a light green. However, a different color scheme would certainly be chosen for any future interior renovation. In place of the pulpit altar, there used to be a late Gothic carved altarpiece (circa 1500), which, however, was loaned to St. Michael's Church in Brachstedt (Hohenthurm Parish) several decades ago (www.pfarramt-hohenthurm.de/brachstedt/kirche-st-michael/). That's how it goes with changing tastes! Today, it's inconceivable to us to discard and remove this beautiful carved altarpiece in order to erect a pulpit altar that is relatively unadorned. Beneath the stairs, we discover two oval windows that may play a special role in the church's interior design in the future, as the Leipzig artist Robin Zöffzig has created designs for these two windows, some of which have already been implemented for exhibition purposes.
