The town of Cranzahl in the Sehmatal, with a population of 2,000, is primarily known for its dam. It was built between 1949 and 1952 to supply Annaberg-Buchholz and the surrounding area with drinking water.

The local chronicler's bench below the Bärenstein summit cross offers a beautiful, albeit constantly overgrown, view of the Ore Mountains landscape.

Since April 2025, a wooden sculpture of a mother bear with a cub has stood tall on the Bärenstein mountain, right next to the mountain hotel. The sculptures were created by the Mildenau-based company Weinis Holzart, which specializes in creative wood art.
