Porta Arboreti; 14세기에 기원을 둔 Ooidonk 성 영지의 일부였으며 당시 성 영지로의 접근을 형성했던 기념비적인 입구이자 이전의 비둘기 탑.

이 역사적인 장소는 제1차 세계 대전 중 퍼시 M. 잇맨의 가슴 아픈 이야기를 전합니다. 정보판은 1917년 8월 25일에서 26일 밤, 7대의 영국 핸들리 페이지 O/100 폭격기가 이곳 상공을 비행하다가 포격을 당했던 사건을 상기시킵니다. 20세의 항공기 승무원 퍼시 M. 잇맨은 이 장소에서 불과 몇 미터 떨어진 곳에서 추락하여 사망했습니다. 나머지 승무원들은 전쟁 포로가 되었습니다. 잇맨은 결국 이프르 북쪽 랭크마크에 있는 영연방 묘지인 '시멘트 하우스'에 안장되었습니다.

The two canals that intersect here (near Merendree and Zomergem, not Sint-Joris, as initially mentioned here) are the Ghent-Bruges Canal and the Schipdonk Canal. This point is known as the Schipdonk Lock.

The gate also serves as a bridge over the Kalebeek stream. The north facade of the gate (facing the church) features, in addition to the date 1864, the coat of arms of the t'Kint de Roodenbeke family, who acquired the castle that year (and still own it).

To cross the Ghent-Ostend Canal, pedestrians are dependent on the bridges for car traffic: between Bellembrug and the bridge on Veldestraat in Merendree (from here just past the Schipdonksluis) there is only this one, the Hansbekebrug.

Contrary to what the name "museum" suggests, this isn't a building or a domain where you can wander around and admire all sorts of bicycles. No, they make "crazy" bikes (similar to the kind you can experiment with at De Lustige Velodroom in Blankenberge) that you can rent. There's also a drinks vending machine (at d'Oude Smisse).

Meersgat is one of four places in the valley area where you can cross the Oude Kale. You will also find a resting bench here.
