The Broekzijdse Molen is the oldest mill in the province of Utrecht. When it was founded in 1641, the use of external windmill gear for polder mills was not yet common in this region. Instead, an internal windmill gear was chosen at the time. Nowadays, the mill is equipped with a tail gear and a windwheel, which makes it possible to turn the mill to the wind.

Goat farm Vooruit met de Geit from Abcoude has been offering homemade products made from goat's milk since June 2022, such as soft ice cream and milkshakes made from pure milk. Homemade goat cheese and other products are also available. Opening hours: Wednesday - Sunday 11:00 am - 8:00 pm

Nice sight. The Battery aan het Gein is an earthen defense structure at the end of the Liniewal Geindijk-Nigtevecht in Abcoude. This defense work consists of batteries on both sides of the Gein and is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam.

The batteries on the Gein were originally erected around 1810 as Post No. 8, one of Krayenhoff's posts. The batteries are located on both sides of the gein. They were built in the form of closed earthworks. As the only post of the old defense system, it was transferred unchanged to the new Amsterdam line of defences. The western battery in particular was still important within Amsterdam's line of defences. She supported the fort at Abcoude and the fort at the Winkel. In 1959 the batteries were abandoned as fortifications. In the 1980s the profile of the batteries was restored.

The Broekzijdse mill was built in 1641 as an inland gate. It is not known when the mill was converted into an external beam. Until 1980, the mill drained the 317-hectare Broekzijds polder and channeled the water into the Gein. As early as 1968, ownership of the mill from the Broekzijds Water Board passed to Stichting De Utrechtse Molens. The mill has a very special knife system; from 1952 on both rods, after a few broken rods on one and since 2009 on both rods again. This is the only mill left in this dangerous system.

If you are on a road bike, you can reach the Broekzijdermolen on a beautiful ride through the picturesque countryside.
