Had it been completed as planned, it would be one of the largest churches in the Netherlands today. Why a stop here is worthwhile: The "stump" tower: Even from afar, you can see the striking tower without a spire. Due to a lack of funds in the 15th century, it remained at a height of 57 meters. This gives the church its unique, almost defiant silhouette. The view: During the season, you can climb the 317 steps of the tower. At the top, you'll be rewarded with a fantastic panorama of the star-shaped fortifications, the harbor, and the expansive polder landscape. The new Portlantis appears to be the replacement for the former Futureland. It has an interactive information center about Maasvlakte 2 (admission €), which you can also briefly admire from the elevator. The rest is free: a restaurant/café, and a fantastic viewing platform at the top. Everything is accessible by elevator; only a staircase leads to the viewing platform.
