The Valckenstein Forest is a surprisingly green area amidst the bustle of Rijnmond. As soon as you emerge from the Benelux Tunnel and cycle under the A15 motorway, this tranquil forest between Hoogvliet and Poortugaal suddenly appears. It almost feels like you've discovered a hidden gem of nature. Wide paths alternate with smaller lanes, and along the waterways you often hear birds, from woodpeckers to buzzards, and even the occasional kingfisher. The forest is still young, largely planted in the 1970s and 1980s, but it has now matured enough to truly create a true woodland experience.

The brick tower has a square floor plan and, including the lighthouse, is 56 meters high. Unfortunately, the lighthouse is not open to the public, so it can only be admired from a distance.
