Perhaps a brief stop here is the perfect opportunity for hikers and walkers to offer a short meditation and a prayer to God. I would therefore like to invite you to prayerfully contemplate God's infinite love for us, revealed in Christ nailed to the wood of the cross. Perhaps a saying by the Spanish founder of the religious order, Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556), might be helpful: "It is precisely where human hopes fall lowest that trust in God rises highest. For where all human help gives way, there divine help takes its place."

The view of the lake from the top of Monte Grumello alone makes up for the entire excursion.

The tour takes you to Lugano, Melide by train, and Porto Ceresio by boat. Then, a short stroll through Porto Ceresio with a coffee for €1.50. Continue by bus and boat to Campione. Both towns have beautiful lakeside promenades to linger on. More of a stroll than a hike :-) The lido in Campione is very nice; admission is €7, and meals and drinks are available. Be prepared to pay 0.50 for a hot shower. From Campione, return via Melide and Lugano.
