The Church of Laturo was renovated in 2015 thanks to the intervention of volunteers from the Amici di Laturo association and the Diocese of Ascoli Piceno. Laturo is an abandoned village that today, thanks to the precious contribution of the Amici di Laturo association (https://www.borgodilaturo.it/associazione/amici-di-laturo/mission/), has been brought back to life thanks to the restoration of several buildings. The emigration after the Second World War gradually reduced the population; the absence of a road that would allow essential communications for civil life and the transport of goods, the inconveniences inherent in living in isolation and the drastic decrease in pastoral activity did the rest. At the end of the 1970s, the last family abandoned the town of Laturo to its fate.

The plaque placed near the entrance to the Valzo forest is intriguing for the research deriving from its name "Bosco Carmela Cortini". In 2008, Prof. Franco Pedrotti purchased an old rural house in Valzo and the adjoining 32-hectare forest on the slopes of Mount Capitone. The forest was registered in the name of Prof. Pedrotti's wife, Prof. Carmela Cortini, professor of Systematic Botany at the University of Camerino. Prof. Pedrotti has allocated the entire property to botanical and forest ecology research. Valzo is a very small village in Valle Castellana. Located on the path that leads from Olmeto to Laturo. The village consists of very few houses.
